Time & Location

09 Oct 2022, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm

Newcastle Printmakers Workshop, 27 Popran Rd, Adamstown NSW 2303, Australia

About the Event

This one day workshop will focus on the basics of zinc plate etching and copper sulphate. Students will learn how to prepare plates, use a hard ground to make a line etching, apply an aquatint to develop a range of tones in their prints.

Dates: Sunday 9th October 2022 10am to 4pm.

Beginners welcome but this is also a chance to explore new techniques.

Etching is a rich medium where an image is scratched, drawn or painted onto a metal plate and the image etched into the plate. A range of marks can be created and, after etching, ink is applied to the plate. A print is created by placing dampened paper onto the plate and passing both through a press.

Materials: Participants need to provide their own zinc plates and printing paper (these can be purchased from me/NPW directly if needed).  All other materials are included (eg inks, grounds, tarlaton).

What students need to bring: participants must bring a zinc plate and printmaking paper, wear enclosed shoes and bring apron, own drink and lunch. Also bring some ideas for your prints.

Covid Safety:

All classes will be run in accordance with NSW guidelines in place at the time - https://www.nsw.gov.au/covid-19/freedoms-for-fully-vaccinated-people. Therefore, attendees are required to be double vaccinated to attend.  The workshop will be sanitised prior to, during, and after the class.
